April  12th – Rocky Horror Picture Show at the State Wayne Theater 11:30pm Michigan’s foremost Rocky Horror Shadowcast! The MRHPS is a live performance group dedicated to the preservation and celebration of the world’s greatest cult movie and it’s tradition. See us perform the second Saturday of every month at the historic State-Wayne Theatre in Wayne, MI, for a night of decadence, debauchery, and drag!

Thursday April 17th 6-9pm Wayne Ripple Effect – Main Street present “Building Basics Workshop” You are invited to attend the BUILDING BASICS workshop at the Wayne Fire Station located at 3300 S. Wayne Rd. in downtown Wayne. The workshop will be led by design specialist KELLY LARSON of the Michigan Main Street Center & State Historic Preservation Office. Kelly will review the importance of historic preservation as it affects our downtown area and will help us all better understand how the unique qualities of Wayne’s historic buildings can be enhanced to be functional for today’s needs. Saturday May 3rd Downtown Clean Up Day sponsored by the Wayne Ripple Effect. Join us for a few hours of good neighborly volunteer work as we get the downtown cleaned up and ready for summer. More details to come.

Wednesday May 7th Wayne Farmers Market Opens! Every Wednesday from 3-7pm in beautiful Goudy Park (behind Wayne City Hall) bring the family for an afternoon of fresh wholesome food, lively local music and a big dose of community spirit. This is Downtown Wayne’s most popular event and one of the best markets (or so we hear) in the area.

Thursday May 15th SPECIAL Wayne Ripple Effect meeting! We will NOT have our normal evening meeting on this day but instead we will be meeting at the Wayne DPW yard to prep the flower planters so that they are ready for flower planting day. We’ll need plenty of volunteers! Bring your work gloves and hand rakes for this one.

Saturday May 17th Rouge Rescue 2014 -Projects range from trash cleanup to invasive plant removal, native plantings and other stewardship activities. 

Help with volunteer registration – Want to help protect and clean the Rouge River but you are not able to do the physical work? Many work sites could use help with signing in volunteers.

Take photographs at work sites – We are always in need of good photos of volunteers participating in our events and activities. Volunteers are needed to visit a few work sites to capture the volunteers in action.

Participate at a work site – Gather your friends and neighbors and help clean and restore the Rouge River.

Saturday May 24th Un-Tag Wayne Day Sponsored by JR3′s Beer Townvolunteers
The time has come to take the City of Wayne back!  Here is our opportunity to come together as an entire City and make an enormous positive change.Let’s make this about our City . Not limited to graffiti, but let’s clean the streets, alleys, sidewalks, etc. Together we can seriously make a huge improvement and brighten up the City and be proud because we did it as a community. Meet JR3′s Beer Town on Wayne Road at Annapolis at 10am then just fan out and start tackling jobs. Invite your children and give them somethng to be proud of and to protect! This is planned for the weekend before Memorial Day so we can have the City ready in Honor of our Veterans!

Memorial Day Parade -1 p.m. Sunday, May 25th the parade travels down Wayne Road from Town ‘N’ Country Lanes south to the memorial at the Wayne Public Library. Memorial Day Parade honors the living and deceased military.

June 7 – 8th Wayne-Westland Relay for Life Event in Attwood Park We’re about to embark upon our 13th year of Relay in the Wayne-Westland area! Like our Facebook Page for updates.

Saturday July 12, 2014 Cruisin’ US12: A Car Cruise on Michigan Avenue in downtown Wayne. This year the car cruise is presented by a group of community volunteers. The community has banded together to keep this event alive. Make sure you add this to your calendar for “Car Shows 2014″! We hope to see you here!

Saturday October 5th: World Hoop Day – MI in Goudy Park World Hoop Day is a day of performances and classes for those who are interested in hula hooping. But it’s not only about uniting hoopers from across the state, we also come together in the name of a good cause. All profits from this event will go towards Alternatives for Girls.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: The Memorial Day Parade committee which meets at 7:30 p.m. on the last Wednesday of the month at the Harris-Kehrer VFW Post 3323 on Wayne Road at Avondale in Westland is in need of volunteers.

Friendly Quilters at First Congregational Church: 
The quilters meet on Monday mornings at 9:30 am.  Anyone that would like to quilt is welcome. Located at 2 Towne Square in downtown Wayne (across from Library)

Higher Rock Cafe The Wayne-Westland Salvation Army hosts Higher Rock Cafe, an evening of Christian music, fellowship, games and concessions at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Friday of the month at the corps, 2300 Venoy, south of Palmer. There’s no cover charge. For more information  call (734) 722-3660.

 Every Wednesday at 7:30pm the Westland T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) non-profit weight loss support group meets at St. John’s Episcopal Church 555 S. Wayne Road in Westland. The Wayne Lions Club is looking for new members.
We are best known as the “Knights for the blind” Our primary involvement is helping those with vision and hearing impairments. The club has several fund raising activities and donates 100% of proceeds back to the community.
The Club meets at 7pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday’s of every month at the China Star Palace Restaurant on Wayne Road south of Cherry Hill in Westland.
